We made it into Portland after a long flight with a three hour lay over in Phoenix Arizona, picked up our car rental, (we decided on a Toyota Rav 4 since we would be driving some off road), and arrived at Abe and Nicoles house just in time for dinner. We were welcomed with smiles and hugs. Abe prepared a big bowl of delicious little neck clams as an appetizer, while Joey and Chris cooked salmon that Chris had caught the night before. Everything was incredible. We drank wine and beer and we talked and laughed until we all crashed. It's been a long time since I have seen Sharon this happy.
Breakfast at the Kettleman Bagel Company with Joey. Good Bagels and great coffee. It’s misty this morning, but pleasant. Everyone has to work today so we will be on our own in Portland.
Our first full day in Oregon was spent in Portland. We drove to downtown Portland and stopped at Powell’s Books which is the largest used book store in the world. We both bought a book. After leaving Powell’s we ate lunch at Whole Foods at a small table outside the store. A lady asked to bum a cigarette so I gave her the one that I was smoking.
We drove to Washington Park where we went to the Japanese Gardens and the Rose Gardens. We managed to hook up to a tour of the Japanese Gardens and got a real history of the Gardens.
